What are NFC business cards?

An NFC business card is a physical card that opens your CloudCard when someone taps it against their phone.

On this page

An NFC business card looks like a normal business card, but it has a tiny chip and antenna inside. When someone holds their phone near it, the phone reads the chip and opens your CloudCard digital business card in its browser.

NFC stands for near-field communication. It’s the same technology phones use for contactless payments, and it only works over a few centimetres.

How it works with your digital card

Your NFC card stores the link to your CloudCard. It doesn’t store your contact details itself. This means:

  • Your details stay current. Change your number or job title in CloudCard and the next person who taps your card sees the new details. You never need to reprogram or reprint it.
  • You need a CloudCard digital card. The NFC card is a way of opening your digital card, so it shows whatever is on your card. A Free plan is enough.
  • The other person doesn’t need an app. See Do you or the other person need an app?.

Materials

CloudCard NFC cards come in PVC, Bamboo and Metal. Each card is a once-off purchase, not a subscription. See the pricing page for current options and prices.

Why use one

  • It’s quick: one tap and your card is open on their phone.
  • It feels familiar: you hand over a card, just as you always have.
  • It’s reusable: you keep the same card, and it’s never out of date.

If someone’s phone can’t read NFC, show them your QR code instead. See Which phones can read an NFC card?.
