What "Save contact" saves to someone's phone
Exactly which of your card details end up in someone's contacts when they tap Save contact, and which don't.
When someone taps Save contact on your card, their phone downloads a contact file (a VCF file) and offers to add you to their contacts. The file is built from the fields on your card at that moment, so it’s always up to date.
What’s included
| From your card | Saved as |
|---|---|
| Formatted name | Name |
| Your organisation’s name | Company |
| Job title | Job title |
| Phone numbers (Cellphone number, Work number, Home number, Direct number) | Phone numbers, labelled as mobile, work, home or other |
| Email addresses | Email addresses, labelled work, home or other |
| Work address | Work address |
| Website and social links (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and so on) | Web addresses |
| Calendar booking | A calendar link |
| Birthday | Birthday |
| Nickname | Nickname |
| Note | Notes |
How these appear depends on the other person’s phone and contacts app. Most phones show names, numbers, emails, addresses and websites clearly. Some apps hide or ignore extras such as the calendar link.
What’s not included
- Your profile photo. The saved contact won’t have a picture.
- Your company logo, banner or background.
- The call-to-action button.
How saving works on each phone
- iPhone: a contact preview opens. The other person taps Create New Contact (or adds you to an existing contact).
- Android: the file downloads. Tapping it opens it in their contacts app, where they choose where to save it.
The steps vary a little between phone models and browsers.
