My QR code or NFC card opens the wrong page
Why an old QR code or NFC card opens an error or someone else's card, and how to point it at your current card.
Your QR code and NFC card both hold your card’s address, in the form https://app.cloudcard.co.za/your-company/your-name. If that address changes, anything printed or programmed with the old one keeps opening the old address.
Why it happens
The address is set when your user is created. It doesn’t change when you rename yourself or your company. It does change when:
- You moved to a different organisation in CloudCard. The company part of the address is different.
- Your user was deleted and created again. If the old address was already used, the new user gets a number on the end, for example
https://app.cloudcard.co.za/your-company/john-smith-2. - Two people have the same name. The second person’s address ends in
-2. If cards or QR codes were made for the wrong person, they open the other person’s card.
CloudCard doesn’t automatically redirect old addresses to new ones.
Fix it
- Open your card from the dashboard and check the address in your browser. This is your current link.
- Compare it with the page your QR code or NFC card opens.
- If they’re different:
- For a QR code, download a new one and replace the old one wherever it’s printed or shared. See Download your QR code.
- For an NFC card, contact support about pointing it at your new address or replacing it. See Return or replace an NFC card.
- Update your card link anywhere else you’ve shared it, such as your email signature or LinkedIn profile.
If it opens a page that isn’t a CloudCard card
Check that you’re scanning the right code. Some phone camera apps show a preview of the link before opening it. A CloudCard link starts with the CloudCard web address.
Still opening the wrong page? Contact support with the old and new links.
